Under the Sea Crafts

Recently, I've been finding a lot of "Under the Sea" crafts on Pinterest.  I thought it would be fun to do a bunch of these this summer and learn a little about the ocean.  We've gone to the aquarium before and Noah really seems to like fish and turtles.  I found many options for making fish, so I decided we could do two kinds one afternoon.  We painted one with some watercolor paints and we glued tissue paper squares to the second.

Materials needed:
White card stock
Watercolor paints
Tissue paper squares (in desired colors)
Glue
Googly Eyes

You could easily do this using a paper plate, but I decided to use a 12x12 piece of card stock and simply cut out a circle (using a dinner plate to draw my circle).

^^^ I keep meaning to buy an inexpensive table cloth, but in the meantime I just tape down (using painters tape) a trash bag to keep his play table clean.  I use these small Glad containers for the water and have a paper towel on hand.

Noah loved doing both... he is a huge fan of painting and using a glue stick!  And while I would have only put one eye on each (since it's a side profile), he wanted 2 eyes for each fish... so that's what we did :)

We also made a tissue paper turtle.  Noah loves turtles and once again, any craft that involves a glue stick is fun in his book!

Materials needed:
Paper plate
Green card stock or construction paper (for the head, feet, and tail)
Tissue paper squares (we used two different shades of green)
Glue
Googly Eyes

I simply free handed the head, feet, and tail, and cut them out from the card stock.  I helped Noah glue all the parts onto the paper plate and ended up using some scotch tape to help keep them securely attached.  The glue alone wasn't cutting it.  I then squirted some regular Elmer's glue all over the plate and Noah started sticking the tissue paper squares all over the plate.  He also liked to use the glue stick to add some extra stickiness ;)  Glue on the googly eyes and you have a turtle!

We really had fun making these two crafts!  I still have a few more "Under the Sea" ideas, so stay tuned!
