It's The Little Things - The Good And The Not So Good

I find that most days are filled with good little things and not-so-good little things.  Unfortunately, I sometimes let those not-so-good things put me in a bad mood and "ruin" my day.  These last few days have definitely been filled with both.

Good little thing:  Noah slept in until 7:30 AM on Monday.

Not-so-good little thing: Once awake, I had to get to work on cleaning Noah's glider and carpet trying to get the puke smell out.

Good little thing: Noah had a 3 hour nap!

Not-so-good little thing: Noah has been throwing legos and wooden train tracks at me and pulling my hair.

Not-so-good little thing: Noah woke up multiple times during the night and got up at 6:30am on Tuesday.

Good little thing: Watching Noah imitate some argentine tango moves on Dancing with the Stars this morning… hilarious!

Not-so-good little thing:  Noah boycotted his nap resulting in 45 minutes of crying and then a lot of clingyness.

Good little thing: Enjoying some Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream with Noah

Not-so-good little thing: After coming back for 5+ bites, he decided he wasn't a fan and spit it out right on my couch (thank goodness for leather)

Good little thing: He finally went to sleep at 3:45 and slept for over 2 hours

During the day, the not-so-good things seemed to be overpowering the good things and I was really losing my patience.  But looking back, there were just as many good/great moments and I should really try to not let these little things bug me.  We all have these days, and sometimes we just need to vent so that we can start fresh the next day.  I'm hoping today goes a little better :)

Mother's Day Gift Guide

Mother's Day will be here before we know it!  Personally, we keep it simple around here, but I've come up with a variety of gifts on all ends of the price spectrum.  Personally, I think there are a few types of gifts that work well for Mother's Day.  I like gifts for the home, fashion type gifts, and things to help pamper.  I also think homemade gifts and some flowers are always appreciated.

Nail Polish & Lotion
I don't know a woman who wouldn't like some new nail polishes.  It would be cute to put a little bag together with some of their favorite smaller beauty products.  Or you could get them a gift card to their favorite nail salon for an afternoon of pampering.

I can never get enough PJs.  Personally, I prefer the comfortable and practical PJ pant and t-shirt.

Even though they don't last long, I love getting flowers for Mother's Day.  Maybe it's because I LOVE peonies and they aren't in season for very long, but I would be happy getting these every year!

Sneakers & Purse
For me, I've been picking more practical items to wear recently, so I was immediately drawn to a slip on sneaker and a cross body bag.  But this idea could work for any mom.  Pick out something you think they'd like, or even get them a gift card to their favorite store.

Tablecloth & Vases
I know my mom loves getting things for the house.  A lot of times these are items that we don't usually buy for ourselves since they sometimes seem a little unnecessary.  But really, who doesn't love a new fun item for the house.

MacBook Pro
I know this last gift is a major splurge.  But I actually just ordered myself a new laptop and it will be arriving next week.  My current one (which I've had for 7+ years) is constantly running out of space and recently it's started shutting down when I'm in the middle of things.  Chris and I have been making some large purchases lately, so we've taken on the attitude that these large purchases will also be considered gifts for certain holidays (i.e. Mother's Day, Father's Day, Anniversary, etc.) which is TOTALLY fine by me!

What are you planning to get your mom?  What would you love to get from your kids?

Weekend Recap | Happy 40th Anniversary!

We had a VERY busy weekend!  Busy, productive, and fun.  Saturday morning we started very early with Noah's 8 am swim class.  We dress Noah in his rash guard and sweatpants at home and change him into his swim diaper and swim suit when we get there.  When we got there, his swim suit was not in the bag!  Somehow it fell out after I packed his bag last week!  So embarrassing since Noah owns half a dozen very nice bathing suits... oh well these things happen I guess.

Then we went and got Noah's hair cut… his third one.  It was getting a little messy in the back and had been too long to gel for a few weeks.  This time I was prepared and asked for a smock for myself as well.  I'm glad I did, cause while he was fine at first, once she turned the tv on (used to distract the kids) it all came back to him and he started crying before she even began!  I had to hug him the whole time, keeping him seated and still.  At least with the smock, I wasn't covered in hair at the end of it!  At first we thought kid haircuts were way overpriced, but after the last two visits, we think they are worth every penny considering what they go through!  Thankfully he recovers quickly and has a cute hair cut to show for it.

Then we went to Ikea and The Container Store... We didn't buy much but scoped some things out for the future.  We then met some friends for lunch at the nearby Shake Shack. This was Noah's third time and he's now been to locations in three states!

We were supposed to go to a birthday party in the afternoon, but Noah slep through it!  He hasn't had the best naps lately so I didn't dare wake him.  When he finally woke up, we went to my parents' house for a very relaxed dinner... I didn't even change out of my sweats ;)

Sunday was definitely more relaxed.  Chris let me sleep in... which was amazing and just what I needed.  We hung out inside during the day and then went to Chris' parents house in the late afternoon.  Noah played with Louie (Uncle Justin's dog) and he and Nonna even had a little dance party!

We then headed out to dinner at The Stone House to celebrate Uncle Justin's birthday and Chris' parents' 40th Anniversary!

Noah ate well, but after he finished all he wanted to do was walk around.  We each took turns following him around.  The restaurant had nice grounds outside, and that's where he wanted to be!  We've learned that nice restaurants have to be put on hold and instead we should just eat in for the time being.  It makes for a more enjoyable time for everyone involved.

The weekend was great but went by way too fast!  I guess the universe didn't think it was complete, so we ended the night with Noah throwing up all over me and his glider.  I was worried he got my stomach bug but now I think it was just eating his dinner way too fast and having too much milk before bed.  It's annoying to clean up as his room smells horrible, but at least he's fine and happy now :)

I also want to wish Chris' parents a very happy 40th Anniversary today!

Five on Friday

I am very glad the weekend is finally here.  It was a long week with some rough nights.  I also got a stomach bug Wednesday evening that really put me out of commission.  Thankfully, Chris took over with Noah when he got home from work and let me rest.  He was even able to take off Thursday morning to let me sleep some more.  Thankfully I'm starting to feel better now :)  As usual, I'm linking up with DarciAprilChristina and Natasha's blogs for their Five on Friday!

On Monday, I took Noah to a nearby gym to run around and play with some friends.  They have open gym time a couple mornings a week.  The last time we went, Noah was barely walking.  It was fun seeing him enjoy the facilities more this time!

Noah is definitely his mother's son.  I left Noah playing in our living room while I went to the bathroom.  Not only did I come back to find him sitting like this, but he also figured out how to turn on the TV and put on the Chew (from the Tivo)!  I guess he loves TV just as much as me ;)

For some reason, Noah has this new fascination with wearing his winter hat in the car.  I guess it shows that I don't clean out our car very often, but I'm kind of glad.  One day he wouldn't stop crying in the car.  I was trying EVERYTHING and finally put the hat on his head, and he stopped crying!  Ever since, he's enjoyed wearing it on our trips.  I think it's hilarious when he has short sleeves on and a winter hat :)

As I mentioned last week, I participated in the Jared Box Project.  I filled a box with some little toys to give to a child that is in the hospital.  I made the box for a boy between the age of 2-4.  I wish the box was bigger, because there are so many more things I'd love to include in the box.  I went to Target and got a bunch of toys I think a little boy would love and then decorated the outside of the box with some dinosaur stickers.  I wrote a little note and had Noah "draw a picture" on the front of the card.  I hope I can bring a little happiness to a little boy.

My mom recently got this Beatles shirt for Noah.  It is and always has been her favorite band.  She came over earlier this week to run some errands with us, so I had to put Noah in the shirt and get a picture of the two of them :)

It's The Little Things - Happy Birthday Justin!

Today is Noah's Uncle Justin's Birthday!  I've really enjoyed watching Noah interact with his uncle.  When he was a newborn, he would just stare at Justin with adoring eyes.  As he's getting older, Noah loves playing with him and his dog Louie.  Justin has enjoyed spoiling Noah, getting him fun gifts, like a huge Easter basket this year!  I'm excited to see their relationship grow!

Happy Birthday Uncle Justin!

Hunting for Easter Eggs

On Saturday, we went to my parents' house for a an Easter Egg Hunt.  Noah has been "practicing" all month long with his basket and plastic eggs :)  Of course we had to "hide" the eggs in plain sight and Noah needed a little bit of help, but I think he had a blast!

After collecting all his eggs, we went outside to play with his Easter gift… the T-Ball set.

It was all fun and games until I told Chris to pretend to hit the ball towards me for a picture.  So much for pretending, cause he really hit the ball right at me and hit me in the knee.  Thankfully it didn't hurt, and we both said afterwards that we were more concerned that it might hit the camera (funny where our priorities are!).  I think these three pictures tell a pretty funny story, especially the last photo when Chris realizes he hit me!

Happy Easter

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend!  We had a fantastic weekend full of beautiful weather and time spent with family… and we have lots of pictures to show for it!  Noah was a very lucky boy… not only did the Easter Bunny bring him a basket to our house, but he got baskets from both sets of grandparents and his Uncle Justin as well!  From all his goodies, I've learned Noah is a happy boy if you give him some plastic eggs and some bubbles ;)

Since Easter morning was going to be pretty hectic, the Easter Bunny delivered Noah's basket to our apartment on Saturday.  Noah loved looking at all his goodies.  He wasn't a fan of the ears at first, so I ended up wearing them instead :)  He loved shaking the eggs and his favorites were the jelly beans (first time having them) and the Cadbury Eggs.

Saturday afternoon, we headed over to my parents' house for an Easter Egg Hunt (more on that tomorrow) and dinner.  Noah opened his Easter basket from my parents.  He loved the wagon and we were shocked when he was able to pull it around completely full!  My parents also got him a little T-Ball set.  Chris had a blast helping Noah hit the ball.

On Easter Sunday, we went over to Chris' parents' house to see them and Uncle Justin before heading over to brunch.   Noah's baskets were filled with so many cute things.  Our favorites were the NOAH puzzle, the Fisher Price radio, and of course the bubbles!

Before heading to brunch, we went out on the deck and got some cute pictures outside.  I'm absolutely loving this weather!

This year, we went to brunch at the Basking Ridge Country Club, just like we do every year.  This year, my parents joined us as well.  The food was great and Noah did amazing!  He ate a bunch of food (I think he liked the variety) and then had fun walking around exploring.

He even met a little girl name Scarlett (15 months).  They became friendly quickly and I'm pretty sure we can consider this Noah's first girlfriend!  Noah held her hand and lead her around and then showed her all his cool toys!

As you can see, we had an amazing Easter!  Holidays really are more fun with a kid and it just keeps getting better!

Happy Easter from the Flinns!
