2nd Anniversary!

Greetings.......after a year-long hiatus from blogging, Chris here.   I've decided to make another guest blog.   Since we last chatted, it's been a very exciting year, as I'm sure you've read on this blog.   By far the biggest excitement surrounds the upcoming arrival of Baby Flinn!   This past month has been pretty busy as well.  Our move into a bigger apartment a few weeks ago enabled us to ready the nursery with plenty of time before the baby arrives.   Each week it keeps getting more and more ready for the baby.

Since our actual anniversary fell on a Tuesday this year, we decided to go out this past Saturday to a local restaurant called David Todd's City Tavern.   We had been there once before, and enjoyed the food, so we decided to make reservations there to celebrate our 2nd anniversary.   Hard to believe it's been 3.5 years since our first date.   It would've been a little cooky, but it's a shame we don't have a picture of the two of us from that night, to drop that picture into this blog post as well.    I think I might've scared her off if I asked the waiter to take our picture during that first date!

Happy Anniversary Meghan!

27 Weeks!

How far along?  27 weeks
Baby Size: 2lbs 2oz +
Total weight gain/loss:  15+ lbs
Maternity clothes:  Yup... and I'm getting bigger every day!
Stretch marks:  I think I got 2 this week.  At first I wasn't sure if I scratched myself, but now I think it's definitely a stretch mark... oh well.
Sleep:  Sleep was okay this week but my left side is starting to hurt at night from lying on it all the time.
Best moment this week:  So many things!  Getting to see our baby boy at the ultrasound, getting a tour of the hospital, and of course that Chris finally felt him kick!
Miss Anything?  Nothing really this week.
Movement:  All the time.  The ultrasound technician said he wouldn't stop moving!  Chris finally felt him move!  At first it was just a slight movement, but just last night he felt a bunch of strong "kicks".
Food Cravings:  See above lol.
Anything making you queasy or sick?  Still just the smell of fish.
Gender:  BOY!!!
Labor Signs?  Thankfully, no!
Symptoms:  The Sciatica was pretty bad this week and the heartburn is kicking in earlier each day :(
Belly Button in or out?  Getting more shallow every day.
Wedding rings on or off?  Still off.
Happy or Moody most of the time:  Happy!
Looking forward to:  Our 2nd Wedding Anniversary!  We went out to dinner on Saturday to celebrate, but our actual anniversary is on Tuesday.

26 Weeks!

How far along?  26 weeks
Baby Size: Weighs about 1 2/3 lbs and is 14 inches long.
(UPDATE 8/21/12:  Per Ultrasound our baby weighs 2 lbs 2 oz!)
Total weight gain/loss:  15+ lbs
Maternity clothes:  Yup... loving yoga capris and maxi dresses right now!
Stretch marks:  So far so good.
Sleep:  I had a few bad nights of sleep this week.  I felt like I was getting up every hour to use the bathroom!
Best moment this week:  It's a tie... our crib was delivered and I got to celebrate at my friend's baby shower this weekend!
Miss Anything?  Being pain free.  I tried to walk on the treadmill (at an extremely slow pace) and I could only last 15 minutes.  Even that little bit of walking made the back and sciatica pain horrible for the rest of the day!
Movement:  Constantly.  At first it was only when I was lying down but now it's all the time throughout the day.  I can't wait for Chris to be able to feel him!
Food Cravings:  Fruit and ice cream!  Anything sweet really.
Anything making you queasy or sick?  Still just the smell of fish.
Gender:  BOY!!!
Labor Signs?  Thankfully, no!
Symptoms:  The heartburn and acid reflux keeps getting worse.  Thankfully it's only at night and if I drink a glass of milk before I go to sleep it really does help.
Belly Button in or out?  Getting more shallow every day.
Wedding rings on or off?  Off, I'm glad I put my wedding band on a necklace.
Happy or Moody most of the time:  Happy!
Looking forward to:  I go for another ultrasound tomorrow to see how this little boy is growing.  I really hope that everything is going well and he's getting the nutrients he needs!  I'm also excited that my brother and Tyler are visiting this week!

This morning I had my glucose test.  I was able to drink the yummy orange beverage at home and then just go to the doctor's office 15 minutes before my blood test.  The first few sips weren't bad and I was almost scoffing at people who describe it as horrible.  But then as I kept drinking it, the aftertaste bothered me more than anything.  It also made me burp a lot, and I got to experience the aftertaste some more.  I definitely wouldn't want to drink this stuff on a regular basis, but it wasn't as bad as I expected.

Showering my friend and her little baby girl!

Today I went to Pennsylvania for one of my best friend from college's baby shower.  Chris drove me down since I wasn't sure how my back would be by the end of the day.  While I was at the shower he went to the outlets nearby.

I met Jenn in college... we were both Accounting majors.  Our senior year you would often find me, Jenn, and Amy together... we even joked around that our nickname was "JAM".   After graduation the three of us tried to get together as much as we could, but it got hard with living in different cities and our full time jobs.  Regardless of the less frequent visits, we still kept in touch via email and we were bridesmaids in each other's weddings.  A little funny side note is that Jenn and I both married guys with the same last name (just different spellings).  The day Jenn told me that she was pregnant, I had to laugh because I was also pregnant (but hadn't told many people) and we are due almost exactly one month apart.   Jenn is having a precious little girl and I'm having a boy... I hope that our babies can be friends!

"JAM" together again!

Nursery Design

Over the past two weeks we had the crib and glider delivered and we got some shelving from Ikea.  We are still waiting for the changing table, bedding, drapes, and accessories for the room.  Our theme for the nursery is animals (primarily elephants) in blue, green, and gray.  We got most of the stuff from Pottery Barn Kids, Ikea, and Etsy.  I'm so excited to get the room ready, but I'm trying to force myself to take my time since I still have 3 months before he comes.

Total weight gain/loss:  15+ lbs
Maternity clothes:  Yup
Stretch marks:  So far so good.
Sleep:  Sleep has been much better lately
Best moment this week:  Getting all the Ikea furniture put together... our place is starting to look more complete!
Miss Anything?  Being able to sleep on my back!
Movement:  Yes, and especially when I'm lying down!
Food Cravings:  Wednesday night I really wanted Skittles (random I know)... so Chris being the amazing husband he is ran to the 7 Eleven next door and got me some :)
Anything making you queasy or sick?  Still just the smell of fish.
Gender:  BOY!!!
Labor Signs?  Thankfully, no!
Symptoms:  I have learned to manage the sciatica during the day through resting, but when I'm sleeping it can really kick in if I accidentally roll onto my right side... not fun waking up to that pain!  I also started getting pretty bad heartburn every evening now.
Belly Button in or out?  It's still technically in but getting more shallow every day.
Wedding rings on or off?  I finally decided to put my wedding band onto a chain and wear it around my neck.

I Heart Ikea!

Since our new apartment has a different living room layout and an extra bedroom, we knew that we would need some new furniture pieces to make the spaces work.  We decided to set up everything we already owned before making a trip to Ikea.   I was so impressed with Chris that we were able to go to Ikea Saturday morning, he had to load the car and bring everything into the apartment on his own (since I can't lift heavy things), and he put everything together by 7:30 AM on Sunday!

We now have room for a dining table (a very small one) instead of having bar stools (which we never used).  I'm excited to start having dinner at an actual table rather than eating hunched over at the coffee table.

We now float the couch in the middle of the room in order to separate the space between the living room and the dining room/Chris' "office", so I wanted to get a sofa table.  I had to give up my desk in the move, so the sofa table will also provide the storage that my desk used to provide.

While my parents are giving us the crib and changing table from Pottery Barn Kids, we needed a bookcase, a side table, and some storage for the closet.  Ikea came to the rescue again in the form of the Expedit!  I kept seeing them being used on so many blogs that I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon.  We are using a tall skinny version as a bookcase in the room, and a short 4 cube one in the closet for storage.

In our old apartment the kitchen was right there when you walked in the front door.  As a result, we would usually put on our shoes in there (to avoid walking on the carpet with shoes).  However, in the new apartment there is a long hallway (that is carpeted) from the front door that leads to the kitchen and living area.  We have a little nook right by the hall closet, that I thought would be the perfect spot for a little stool/bench.  This way I can sit down by the door to put my shoes on... I hope it works out like I think it will!

24 Weeks!

How far along?  24 weeks
Baby Size: An ear of corn (over 1 pound and 12 inches long)
Total weight gain/loss:  15 lbs per my doctor's appointment this morning.
Maternity clothes:  Yup
Stretch marks:  So far so good.
Sleep:  I've been staying up later (darn Olympics), so I've been able to sleep straight through til 5 AM... I consider that an accomplishment.
Best moment this week:  Lots of things!  Moving into our new apartment, our glider was delivered, and my dad started painting the nursery!!!
Miss Anything?  Being able to help out more (I was pretty useless with the move)
Movement:  Tons... this baby boy is a mover and a shaker!
Food Cravings:  I could really go for Pizza Hut and a Rollo McFlurry!
Anything making you queasy or sick?  Thankfully that is primarily gone... I still just don't like the smell of fish.
Gender:  A very active boy!
Labor Signs?  Thankfully, no!
Symptoms:  Same as usual, though I'm feeling better now that I can rest and lie down during the day.  The weekend of the move was rough, not cause I was expected to help carry anything, but just from being on my feet more than I should have been.
Belly Button in or out?  It's still technically in but getting more shallow every day.
Wedding rings on or off?  I don't think they will be back on until after he arrives.
Happy or Moody most of the time:  Very happy.  Excited to be in our new apartment!
Looking forward to:  Decorating the nursery and getting the apartment set up!  I don't do well with boxes surrounding me.  Also can't wait for our TV to work again... darn Verizon!

Adventures in Moving

I never thought there would be so many issues moving from the third floor to the fifth floor in the same apartment complex!  We hired movers and everything, set up appointments for everything to be set up and delivered, and yet there were still issues!   I am so thankful that both sets of parents were able to come over and help us on Friday.  It was such a relief since I wasn't able to help out much and it was hard for Chris to supervise everything that was going on!

Our old apartment filled with boxes

Our new apartment - the living room before the moving began!

Our new kitchen... this eventually became filled with boxes during our move!

So the adventures we faced in moving...  I don't think anyone really ever realizes how much stuff they have.  I mean we were moving from a 1 bedroom apartment, it's just the two of us, and everything is very organized, yet when we went to pack everything it seemed like there was an endless amount of stuff.   While we were moving to a 2 bedroom with more square footage, the living space isn't any bigger.  And since we wanted to have a dining table in the new place (vs the barstools we currently have) we are losing a little bit of space for the living room and our desks.  It made us face the realization that we really need to pair down to the necessities, especially since we know that with a new baby comes a lot more STUFF!  Thankfully Chris and I are naturally organized people, so once we decide what we need and how much space we have to store it we can keep it looking nice.

The second problem we encountered was that while the carpet in the new apartment was clean, it didn't look or feel very soft or fresh.  The apartment opened December 2009 (when we moved in) and the carpets haven't been replaced since then.  As a result, the carpets had become worn in places where you can tell people walked a lot on (with shoes most likely).  Normally I wouldn't care, but with a new baby that will be put on the floor, eventually crawling on it, dropping things on the floor and then putting it in his mouth, I wanted new carpet.    After much discussion with management via email and phone calls, we finally came to an agreement where we will pay for a portion of the new carpet and they will pay for the rest.

Originally we planned to move in on Friday, then go to Ikea and the Container Store on Saturday.  However, we did not anticipate how long it would take to unpack all those boxes as well as the issues we faced with Verizon.

Verizon is a story in itself!  On Thursday I woke up and we didn't have internet, tv, or phone anymore!  Chris called and for some reason (you can never get a straight answer out of them) we got shut off a day early than we were supposed to.  They said that they would turn it on by noon and then Chris confirmed again that they would be coming to our new apartment on Friday to set up the Fios.  They said yes, they will be there between 3 and 7.  Friday arrived and around 12:30 Verizon showed up.  We were worried about the timing since the movers weren't supposed to come til 2, therefore the TVs weren't even in the new apartment yet.  Thankfully Verizon had to do other things before getting to the actual TVs and our movers came an hour earlier as well.  Verizon set up our phone and internet, and then started working on our TVs.  We have Tivos instead of using the Verizon DVRs, so after he put in the necessary codes he left before the TVs were actually working.  He said that Tivo's just take longer to go through the set up but that the TVs would be working, and left in a hurry.  Well guess what, the TVs were not working!  Chris got on the phone with them to complain, and then at 5pm a Verizon guy showed up... we thought wow that was fast to send someone out.  Not our luck... this guy was sent because of the service being shut off on Thursday in our old apartment.  Not sure why they have to send someone out when them turning it back on worked, but I guess that's how Verizon works.  He said he wasn't able to help us since he was only sent to make sure the other apartment was working (oh the logistics of a large company).  Then he said that there were problems all over the area with the new setups not working and we just had to wait it out (could take a few hours) but to call the next day if it still wasn't working.

Well it wasn't working Saturday morning when we got up, so Chris called them back.  First they said they could come Monday morning.  Chris was so angry since we are missing the Olympics every day we don't have TV, so he asked if someone could come out that day.  They said okay, we will send someone out between 1 and 5.  So Chris waited around all afternoon for the technician.  At 5 oclock he called back asking where the technician was... they said, "Oh, we have no documentation of an appointment today, we just have your Monday appointment in the system".  Chris had been working his butt off, not a lot of sleep, so this just made him outraged.  Chris was able to find an executive's email address so he can complain, but in the meantime, we wait.  We really hope that the technician who comes tomorrow morning can fix it all and we can get back to normal around here.

With Chris going back to work tomorrow, my plan is to tackle one area each day, which still gives me plenty of time to lie down and rest.  Once we know where everything will go, then we will make our trip to Ikea to get what we need.  We are keeping a lot of things in my parents' basement until we have more room.  Once the rest of the apartment is setup, then I will start worrying about the nursery.  The crib and changing table should be delivered soon, and once my dad is finished painting the room we can move the glider in as well.  I'm glad we still have almost 4 months before this little boy arrives!
