Stitch Fix #7 | Fall 2016

The last Stitch Fix I got was in July.  While I did end up loving and keeping a maxi dress, I was very disappointed with the rest.  I had my deliveries scheduled for every three months, but decided to put them on hold indefinitely.  I had been having success shopping on my own and thought maybe I needed a break.  But a few weeks ago, Stitch Fix reached out to me and offered to waive my styling fee.  Since there was no risk involved, I decided to give them another chance.  I was really excited for this shipment because a lot of my blogging friends have been receiving and sharing some really beautiful fall pieces.  Keep reading to see what I received, what I thought of it all, and what I kept!

For the first outfit, I'm wearing three of the pieces that I received.  The Clae Cable Front Pullover,  Elizabeth Super Skinny Jean, and the Jackie Oval Stone Necklace.  It's funny, because while I love this outfit, when I first pulled the jeans and sweater out of the box, I was a little skeptical.  The jeans don't have a button and zipper, but are more like leggings.  At first I was disappointed by this, and actually wondered if they sent me maternity jeans, but this is now one of my favorite features of these jeans.  The best part, is they still have real back pockets and work really well with my riding boots.  While I can cuff them to wear with booties or flats, I'm contemplating hemming them if I decide to wear them that way more often.  And as for the sweater, I was hesitant because I often have a hard time finding sweaters that I like.  They are either too fitted, too loose, or just look too bulky.  But I really liked the color, the detailing, and I really love how it looks on.  The necklace is really pretty, but I honestly have a few very similar necklaces.  If I didn't though, I totally would have kept it!

As soon as I tried on the sweater, I thought of the scarf Stitch Fix sent me last fall and thought they would look great together.  I really like how they go together and think this would be perfect on a colder day!

When opening the box, this Elby Split Neck Blouse was the first thing that caught my eye. I really loved the color and the polka dot detail.  I wavered back and forth on this blouse a lot!  In the end though, I decided to send it back simply because I can find similar tops at Loft for cheaper, since they are always having a sale!

^^^ here are the jeans cuffed with booties

After liking everything so far, I was wondering if I might get my first 5 for 5.  Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the Deron Beaded Trim Blouse.  While it doesn't look bad, I don't think it's anything special.  But the real deciding factor is that it was very see through, meaning I had to wear a tank underneath.  And at the price, I really did think it was justified.  Part of me wishes I could find a white blouse to add to my closet, but it is nearly impossible to find one that isn't sheer!

Here's a breakdown of the items I received, how much they cost, and what I kept vs. returned:
Clae Cable Front Pullover (Size Large) - $54.00 (KEPT)
Elizabeth Super Skinny Jean (Size 10) - $78.00 (KEPT)
Jackie Oval Stone Necklace - $34.00 (RETURNED)
Elby Split Neck Blouse (Size Large) - $48.00 (RETURNED)
Deron Beaded Trim Blouse (Size Large) - $64.00 (RETURNED)

Stitch Fix #6 | Summer 2016

Last Thursday I received my sixth "Fix" from Stitch Fix.  I had scheduled to receive them every three months, so it works out that I get a new Fix for each season.  This Fix was all about Summer!  Keep reading and see what they sent me, what I liked (and didn't), and what I ended up keeping!

Loveappella - Abella Maxi Dress (Size Large) - $78

First let me tell you how soft this dress is!  It feels like butter... or maybe more like wearing pajamas!  I'm a huge fan of dresses in the summer so I immediately wanted to try this on.  And once on I loved it even more!  I like that I can wear a easily wear a regular bra, it has a scoop neck without being too low, and has the tie to cinch around my waist.  This was a definite keeper!

VERDICT: KEPT

Daniel Rainn - Tolley Mixed Print Top (Size Large) - $68

I actually liked this next top, and so did Noah.  When I receive a Fix, I quickly try on the pieces and then think about them overnight before photographing them.  Noah saw me try this on initially and told me he really liked it.  I love that he has opinions lol!  There's a camisole built into the shirt and it was not too tight or too loose.  I also liked the print and that it's different from anything in my closet.  It's honestly the price that got me.  I knew I was going to keep the dress, and the idea of spending another $68 made me question it.

VERDICT: RETURNED

Pixley - Herbert Scoop Neck Blouse (Size Large) - $54

I was optimistic about this top.  I really liked the floral print and the touches of black in it.  But it was just TOO SHORT!  Don't mind the wrinkles... I didn't want to waste my time ironing once I saw how short it was on me.

VERDICT: RETURNED

ARATTA - Simmaron Cut Out Back Top (Size Large) - $54

Oh this top was unfortunate. I actually did like the print, but after that it was just all sorts of wrong.  First off, it was too small for me... the buttons were popping at the chest area.  Then there was the fact that it was just really sheer.  And while the idea of a unique back is kind of cool, it just doesn't work for me.  I have to wear a bra and prefer to wear a normal style one.  And the back detailing just didn't line up with my bra straps, so it made the back detailing look even sillier.

VERDICT: RETURNED

Show Me Your MUMU - Kelsie Dress (Size Large) - $98

I wasn't a fan of this dress as soon as I pulled it out of the box.  I'm not a fan of the print and the material just wasn't that nice.  And you'd think at this price the material would at least be nice.  To me it felt like a cheap knock off silk.  The print combined with the flutter sleeves just made me think old lady living in Florida.  Who knows... maybe that's in style now!?

VERDICT: RETURNED

So as you can see, I only kept one piece this time.  While I did like 2 out of the 5, I'm planning on putting my Fixes on hold for right now.  I've been having a lot of success shopping at Loft and Old Navy right now and I'm always able to shop on a sale!  I know Chris is positively thrilled I won't be receiving automatic Fixes anymore ;)

What do you think... did I make the right decision???

I'm also excited to announce that I will now be a cohost for the Tuesday Talk linkup!

Stitch Fix #5 | April 2016

Last Friday, April Fools Day, I received another Stitch Fix box.  While many people use Stitch Fix because they don't like to shop themselves, I do it to find a few unique pieces that I struggle to find in stores.  As a result, I set up my shipments to arrive every three months.  My last shipment was in January 2016, so I was excited to receive some warmer weather pieces this time.  I included a note for my stylist, asking for a few things.  I wanted some distressed jeans, a green utility vest, and some tops with delicate detailing and floral prints.  And while I only kept one top, I feel my stylist definitely listened to my requests.

Mori Henley Top (Size Large) - $48

This was the only top I ended up liking and keeping in my latest Stitch Fix package.  I immediately loved it because of the colors and print... I'm a huge fan of teal!  I also liked that it was sleeveless.  When going through my closet recently, I noticed that I don't have a lot of sleeveless shirts that I still liked.  While I might want to wear a camisole under it for the armholes, that's not a big deal to me.  I also am a fan of the longer back for covering the bum :)

jeans

Minerva Crochet Trim Top (Size Large) - $48

This second shirt wasn't necessarily bad.  I liked the back detail, but the v-neck in the front seemed a little odd.  It was like in between a scoop and a v-neck and I don't think it really flattered me.  While I didn't mind the print, I wasn't a fan of the colors on me.

Kendal Button Back Top (Size Large) - $58

The final shirt I got was this white eyelet blouse.  While I asked for more feminine tops, this isn't exactly what I meant.  It's a little too traditional for my taste.  And it was too short for my long torso and rather see-through.  This definitely went back.

Kondar Cargo Vest (Size Large) - $68
I specifically asked for a utility vest, so I was happy to see this in my shipment.  Unfortunately, it was very similar to the utility jacket that I received and returned a few shipments ago.  It's a little too thick for my taste, and I have no clue what to do with the belt.  I'm not a fan of it closed and belted, but it looks silly with the strings just hanging.  I also wasn't sure if I liked the detailing on the shoulders.

I had also found a utility vest at Gap and I like it more.  I prefer the darker color, the fabric is softer and lighter, and it didn't have a belt that I didn't know what to do with.  So I sent back the Stitch Fix vest and kept the one from Gap.

utility vest (khaki color)

Kaiden Distressed Frayed Cuff Denim Short (Size 10) - $48
I asked for longer shorts and some distressed jeans.  Didn't necessarily want the two combined, but they said that they did not have any distressed jeans in stock.  These shorts were a little snug for my liking and just a little too short for my taste.  I'm not a fan of my legs and prefer to wear a longer short... especially since I'll be on the floor and crouching down with Noah.  Thankfully, I found an alternative that I preferred from Loft.   It also helped that the Loft shorts were cheaper... I got them on sale for $38.

So what do you think, do you agree with what I kept and sent back???

Stitch Fix #4 | January 2016

On Friday afternoon, right before the blizzard hit the East Coast, I got my Stitch Fix box delivered to my doorstep.  I was actually very surprised it arrived since the tracking email estimated a Monday delivery.  I quickly tried on the pieces on Friday night, texted a few photos to my mom and a friend, then spent the night thinking about what I was going to keep.  Saturday morning, I tried everything on again, this time with the correct jeans and jewelry, and photographed them all.  I definitely find this helps because it helps me see how each item will actually look when I go to wear them.  Sometimes the pieces look better in person, and other times they actually look better on camera.  After a few more texts to family and friends, I decided what to keep and what to send back.

Overall, I thought this was a pretty decent shipment.  While there were some misses, there were a few pieces that kept me debating whether to keep or send back... I guess that's a good sign!

Le Lis - Sutherlin Contrast Print Knit Top (Size Large) - $54

jeans are from a previous Stitch Fix | Tory Burch Flats

I liked this top as soon as I pulled it out of the box.  Part of the reason I love Stitch Fix is getting pieces I wouldn't normally find in the store.  So for that reason, I really liked the combination of the stripe with the floral.  While I wouldn't be able to wear it until Spring, I think I'd get a lot of use from this top.  But then I sent Chris the photo and he said it looked like something someone older would wear... not something you want to hear from your husband!  But a good friend said she really liked this top.  I was seriously questioning my style and couldn't decide who to trust more... a friend or my husband?!  In the end I decided to send it back... who knows if I will end up regretting it.

41Hawthorn - Abrianna Longsleeve Knit Cardigan (Size Large) - $48

necklacejeans | navy top (TJ Maxx)

I'm a sucker for a well fitting cardigan.  I loved the style of this one... it was flowy and covered by butt.  The only thing I wasn't sure about was the color.  I don't usually wear burnt orange (not sure why) and I kind of viewed the color more for the fall than winter into spring.  It's funny cause every time I sent someone the picture of me wearing this, they thought it was a different color.  At first my mom thought it was maroon and then Chris thought it was red.  Regardless of the color, I really love how this cardigan looks on me and I can see wearing it in my everyday life... ahh the decisions!  After getting some feedback from family and friends, this seemed to be the favorite... and I ended up keeping it!

41Hatwthorn - Meryl Tulip Print Sleeveless Blouse (Size Large) - $54

I found it odd that my stylist sent me a sleeveless top in January.  And to make it even more ironic, I tried these on during the huge blizzard we got this past weekend.  Regardless, I did like the top and the print.  However, while I wouldn't have minded a little extra length, it was already too big in the armhole.  I wore a black camisole underneath which made it less obvious, but in the right photo below, you can see that the armhole hangs a little too low.  Since I'm trying to be pickier in what I buy, this had to go back.

Next up are the pieces I didn't like.

Kut From the Kloth - Danny Knit Pant (Size 10) - $68

So these pants... they are definitely a skinny cut, but were super comfy regardless.  My main issue was how long they were!  And I'm 5'6", I can't imagine what these would be like on a shorter person!  And since it's a skinny cut with a tapered ankle, wearing heels wouldn't even help.  And it looked silly when pulled up because it just created a ton of bunching around my ankle.

Le Lis - Leavy Lace Sleeve Knit Top (Size Large) - $38

The sweater was cool in theory, but the sleeves aren't just a different print.  They are a see-through lace material.  While I'm usually a fan of lace, this material just felt cheap, I guess that's why it's "only $38".  It actually photographed way better than I think it looks in person.  The sweater and the pants obviously went back.

Stitch Fix #3 & A Halloween Costume Party Link-Up!

I received my third Stitch Fix last week.  Since I was leaving the next day for a weekend away, I had to immediately try on and photograph all the pieces... please excuse my "day 2" hair!  I have to say that I was quite pleased with this "fix".  I liked most of the pieces and as for the one I didn't, I still understood why my stylist chose it.  I tried to include as much information as possible in hopes to help anyone that's considering trying it out.  If you do order a fix, I'd love it if you used my referral link :)  Here's what they sent me...

Kate Boyfriend Jean - Size 10 ($78)

Honestly, I was surprised when I saw a pair of jeans in my fix.  I had returned a pair of boyfriend jeans from a previous fix.  I'm not sure if I would have called these boyfriend jeans, but whatever they call them, I liked them.  My stylist suggested cuffing them to wear with ankle booties.  I think I need to practice, cause I'm not sure if I'm doing it right!  Are my cuffs to wide, am I making them too short... please give me advice!  While I practice, I figure that they would look cute un-cuffed with flats too.

Sammie Plaid Infinity Scarf ($34)

I love scarves and I don't have one in these colors.  I really love how it looks so "Fall"!  I also like that it's an infinity scarf that sits close to my neck.  I find some infinity scarves are a little loose and hang funny.  I decided to keep it :)

Gideon Polka Dot Sweater - Size Large ($68)

I liked how the sweater fit, even though I'm used to wearing looser and flowier sweaters.  I also liked that it was different than everything else in my closet... I usually choose solids or stripes, so the polka dot was different for me.  I wasn't sold on it initially, but the more I kept looking at the photos and after asking for some input, I decided I wanted to keep this sweater as well.

Ladera Open Cardigan - Size Large ($68)

I actually liked this sweater.  But the length of it makes me think I would wear it most with leggings as a loungewear type item.  And I'd rather spend less on something I will just be lounging in.  If I had liked the 5th piece, I probably would have kept this just to get the discount.

Lei Open Drape Cardigan - Size Large ($78)

While I really dislike this sweater and how it looks on me, I was actually optimistic about it when I saw it in the box.  I had pinned this sweater, so I know why my stylist chose it.  But it just added so much bulk to me and does nothing for me at all!  This is definitely going back!

Here's a breakdown of the items I received, how much they cost, and what I kept vs. returned:
Kate Boyfriend Jean - $78 (KEPT)
Sammie Plaid Infinity Scarf - $34 (KEPT)
Gideon Polka Dot Sweater - $68 (KEPT)
Ladera Open Cardigan - $68 (RETURNED)
Lei Open Drape Cardigan - $78 (RETURNED)

Stitch Fix #2 - Please Help!

I received my second Stitch Fix shipment yesterday and I need some major feedback!  This time, I requested a few specific items.  I wanted a boho inspired embroidered top and a kimono cardigan.  They did send me an embroidered shirt, but I was bummed that they didn't send me a kimono at all. I know what pieces I definitely want to send back, but I need some input on 2 pieces that I'm not as sure about!  Please help!

Cannon Dress ($58)

I was pretty excited about this dress when I first took it out of the box.  I liked that the top was jersey and had thick enough straps so that I could wear a bra.  I also liked the print on the skirt part.  Once I tried it on, I wasn't as in love.  The length is good when I'm standing up, but since I'm always with Noah, I'm not sure how this would be when he sits on my lap or I have to sit on the ground with him.  Also, from the side, the empire waist and the skirt fabric makes me look pregnant (which I'm not!).

Woburn Embroidered Popover Top ($68)

I am very on the fence about this shirt, so I'd love your opinion!  I really did want an embroidered peasant-like top.  I like the colors and that it's longer in the back.  I wish it was a real short sleeve shirt instead of having long sleeves with the option to roll the sleeves.   What do you guys think?

Favio Split Neck Top ($44)

This shirt was cute enough, but it's a little see through and I don't know how much use I'd get out of it.  I don't really see this as an every day shirt considering my lifestyle.

Miley Jacket ($128)

This jacket was really cute, but it was more expensive than I'd like, and I already bought a green utility jacket from American Eagle this spring.  It's definitely going back.

Wilma Half Beaded Lariat Necklace ($28)

I really wish I had been given a kimono or extra top instead of the necklace.  Regardless, I do think this necklace is pretty.  I like the length and the versatility.  I could wear this with a simple t-shirt or dress it up when I go on a super random date with Chris.  Chances are, if I keep the embroidered shirt, this will go back.  But I of course would keep this necklace rather than losing my styling fee and would probably end up wearing it a lot!

Here's a breakdown of the items I received, how much they cost, and what I kept vs. returned:
Cannon Dress - $58 (RETURNED)
Woburn Embroidered Popover Top - $68 (???)
Fabio Split Neck Top - $44 (RETURNED)
Miley Jacket - $128 (RETURNED)
Wilma Half Beaded Lariat Necklace - $28 (???)

Stitch Fix #1

I finally jumped on the bandwagon and signed up for Stitch Fix! (I'm not going to go through the whole explanation of what it is since I'm sure you already know what it is or you can go to their website and they can explain it better than I can.)  So many of the bloggers I follow have done it and they seem to get some really cool clothes from them.  I figured what's the harm in at least trying it.  My first delivery came last Wednesday and I was so excited to open the box!  My stylist is named Tim, and he picked some really great pieces.  I told him I had an Easter Brunch coming up and also wanted some jeans that I could wear with booties.  As Stitch Fix suggests, I also created a Pinterest board with pieces that I liked and why.  I have to say, that while I'm not keeping every item, I was very impressed with the picks!

First up, and probably my favorite piece, was this Tenessy Maxi Dress.  Tim thought it would look good with a cardigan, statement necklace, and some wedges for Easter Brunch.  I wanted to make sure this dress would be versatile, so I tried it on with a few different pieces from my closet.  First I tried it on by itself.  I figured in the summer this would be a nice alternative to shorts and a t-shirt.  I really think I could wear this when out with Noah or a casual summer date with Chris.  This is definitely a keeper!  Now I just need a tan!

Next I tried it on with a few cardigans and my denim jacket.  I think I'll wear the middle outfit to Easter.  The gray cardigan on the left was also included in my Stitch Fix and Tim suggested trying it on with that as well.

Tim also sent me two tops.  One was the Corrinna Striped Heathered Dolman Top and the other was the Elena Embroidery Detail Top.  When I first saw and put on the Dolman top I really liked it and the colors.  But after seeing pictures of it on me, I'm not sure it's that different from things I already own.  This went from a definite to a maybe.

I surprisingly really loved the colors in the Elena Embroidery Detail Top.  I doubt I'd pick this out in the store, but on my Pinterest page I mentioned wanting to try a top like this.  My only issue was it felt a little weird/heavy across the back (it has the same detailing on the back) and it was a little shorter than I usually like (I have a long torso).  This will be going back but I'd like to get more shirts like this to try in the future.

Finally, I tried on the Asymmetrical Zip Cardigan and Distressed Boyfriend Jeans.  The cardigan is SUPER soft and I liked the idea of the asymmetrical zipper.  The only problem is it doesn't look right on me when zipped up.  Not sure if I really care, since I do like how it looks open.  I can see myself grabbing this cardigan a lot in the next few months when it starts off chilly in the morning and warms up by the afternoon.  With it's neutral color it would go with a lot of things and I honestly don't have much like it in my closet right now.

I wasn't too sure how I felt about the jeans.  I wanted them to go specifically with these Sam Edelman ankle booties.  Not sure if I like how they look with them and I'm used to jeans that are more fitted in the butt.  I know they are boyfriend jeans and maybe I'm just not a fan in general.  Not sure if a darker rinse would help either.  Since I liked the cardigan, I decided to try on the same outfit but with jeans I already own.  It's making me think that I don't really need this extra pair of jeans.  Also, the jeans were $108 and with sales and coupons at my favorite stores, I can usually get my jeans for under $50.

So that was my first experience with Stitch Fix.  I will definitely be doing another shipment, but I think I'll wait until end of May/beginning of June and ask for some Summer pieces.

Here's a breakdown of the items I received, how much they cost, and what I kept vs. returned:
Alan French Terry Asymmetrical Zip Cardigan - $68 (KEPT)
Tenessy Maxi Dress - $78 (KEPT)
Elena Embroidery Detail Top - $58 (RETURNED)
Dilan Distressed Boyfriend Jean - $108 (RETURNED)
Corinna Striped Heathered Dolman Top - $48 (RETURNED)
