What We're Reading Wednesday

Happy "First Day of February"!!!  I usually feel like January drags on and on. And while I wouldn't say it went by super fast, part of me is surprised that it's already February.  That means we are the much closer to spring... yay!!!  Today I'm linking up with some of my favorite blogger friends to share a few books that we are reading over here.

Months ago, I ordered the first book from the Magic Tree House series on a whim.  I had heard a few people rave at them, and while I wasn't sure if Noah was ready for chapter books, I thought what's the harm... especially since they are really cheap!  I bought "Dinosaurs Before Dark", added it to Noah's bookcase, and honestly forgot about it.  But a few weeks ago, I found it during one of my purging sessions.  Once again, I put it back in his bookcase and thought nothing of it.  Well Noah just happened to find it one night when picking out his few books before bed and asked to read it with Chris.  He immediately loved it and they read five chapters that night.  The next night, Chris had to work late, so I read a few more chapters with Noah.  The boys finished it the next night.

I was pleasantly surprised that Noah was ready for chapter books without a lot of pictures (there are a few every couple of pages, but they are all black and white).  I have since ordered the next three books in the series and we have already started reading the second book, "The Knight at Dawn".  The whole family is getting into these books and Chris was genuinely disappointed that we started without him!  If Noah still likes these books by the time we get to the fourth book, I will definitely be ordering more in the series!

As for myself, I have been reading more from one of my favorite readers.  I had started Liane Moriarty's "Three Wishes" back in 2016.  While I liked it, things got busy with the holidays and I finally got to finish it the first week in January.  I immediately jumped into another book of hers, "The Husband's Secret".  I really liked both, but I personally preferred "Big Little Lies" and "What Alice Forgot".  For February, I will be reading a book for my MOMS Club Book Club (which I'm sure to share all about next month).  A friend just finished it and loved it, and I'm excited to give another author a try.  I'm also looking forward to meeting up with some friends later this month to drink wine and discuss it!  But I will definitely be coming back to Liane Moriarty sooner than later!

What have you been reading???

  1. Cam love Magic Tree House books. We have the first 4 and really enjoy reading them together. I really enjoy The Husband's Secret. Laine Moriarty is great!

  2. We never got into Magic Tree House books here. I like Liane Moriarty, and I just read her newest one Truly Madly Guilty!

  3. We LOVE the Magic Tree House books around here. They are so great for first independent chapter books around grades 1-2!

  4. Connor loves chapter books too! I was just as surprised but he impressed me with remembering details from the previous chapters. We've been reading more and more of them and it's been fun reading "big boy" books.

  5. I remember those books from when my younger sisters were reading them! And I haven't read any of the books you mentioned, thanks for the recommendations!

  6. Magic Tree House were always a favorite in my classroom! I'm excited to read them at home when Olive gets a little older. January really did fly by!!

  8. So glad Noah likes the Magic Tree House books! They are a favorite of Mason’s. We buy them buy the box set. When we start the last book of a box I order the next. Gotta love Amazon prime! Another chapter book series Mason likes is Junie B Jones. They’re fun books! I like Liane Moriarty’s books.

  9. The first Liane Moriarty I read was What Alice Forgot and it was so good! Then I read The Husbands Secret and was kinda disappointed. But now I need to read Big Little Lies to even it out lol. Noah's into chapter books! That is so cool!
