Afternoon Tea... and What I Wore

My good friend and I decided that instead of exchanging gifts this Christmas, that we'd prefer to spend the money on going out just the two of us.  We have come to the point in our lives that time spent together means more to us than a wrapped gift.  She had been to this local tea room a few years ago for a shower and asked if I would be interested.  I had never been, but had heard great things, so I jumped at the chance to try it out.  Something about a traditional afternoon tea that just sounded so much more special than a regular lunch out!  We went to Teaberry's Tea Room yesterday and left the kids with the dads.  We were greeted by this really cool upside down Christmas tree, and then escorted upstairs to our table.  We chose to have the Milady's Tea which included a pot of tea, tea sandwiches, scones, assorted desserts, and some gelato.  Everything was absolutely delicious and we were so full by the time dessert came that we ended up taking most of the cookies home to share with the kids!  I always love being able to go out with my girlfriends without the kids.  While we see each other a lot during the week, we don't get to chat much because we are often distracted by the kids.  So it was nice to have a few hours where we could actually chat and catch up.  We were just saying how these kind of outings are essential for our sanity!

And while spending some time with friends is the best part, I also love an excuse to get a little dressed up!  I used my usual fashion formula by taking casual and comfortable pieces and adding some sparkle with a statement necklace.  I really love this outfit and since our Christmas celebrations are pretty casual, don't be surprised if you see it again real soon!  The pieces on their own are really comfortable and perfect for the chillier months.  I just got this coat and I have a feeling I will be wearing it a lot!  I love that while it's a neutral and will go with everything, it's different than your typical black wool coat.  And can we talk about these boots!  I saw them here and just had to have them!  I usually stick with flats for comfort, but when dressing up I like the look a heel gives.  These are the perfect compromise because they have a heel but are insanely comfortable!  While I have and love my suede booties, they will need to be tucked away once the snow comes.  I am loving the higher shaft, not just for the look of them, but also because it means I can actually wear socks.  I love the look of ankle boots without socks, but once the temps hit freezing, my feet just can't do it!   When you live through a cold winter, you know the importance of a good coat and footwear... often that's the only part of the outfit you will see!

 wool coat (currently on sale!)
navy sweater (more colors available and currently 50% off!)
necklace (currently 40% off!)
jeans (only $29!!!)
brown boots - I ordered up half a size and in wide width based on reviews. And don't be swayed by the high heel.  I am a huge fan of flats because of comfort, but these boots are super comfortable and easy to walk in!

  2. A tearoom sounds like so fun, and I love the pictures! Those boots are really nice. I wear socks with my booties that come to my ankles, the socks are below the top of the boots!

  6. What a great idea!! Our best friends (husband, wife and little girl) decided to not exchange gifts among the adult and instead we are going do something together.
