Housewarming Gift Basket

Lately, it seems like most of my friends have just recently moved or are about to move into a new home.   I think it's always nice to bring a gift the first time you visit their new home, even if it's just a bottle of wine to enjoy with your friend.  And while wine is always welcome, I thought it would be fun to come up with a gift that they will be able to use and enjoy for more than just one day (or hour).  I immediately thought of a gift basket, but I wanted to make sure it was filled with a mixture of pretty and practical.

When brainstorming what I would include in my housewarming basket, I immediately started thinking of things I would have loved to receive when we moved into our house.  When we first moved in, I was torn between taking my time getting the house clean and functional versus wanting to decorate and making the entire house "finished" immediately.  While you eventually get settled, it's hard to do it all at once.  After some thinking, I realized that since the bathroom is one of the smallest rooms of a house, it is the perfect space to start with.  By setting up the bathroom first, no matter what the rest of your house looks like, boxes and all, you will have one room that is completely done!  So to help my new homeowner friends, I decided to gift them a basket that would help make their bathroom clean, pretty, and done!

Since I go to Target A LOT, it was a no brainer to get everything I needed, including the basket, while there. I picked up some neutral hand towels (that I just happen to have in my powder room and love!), a hand soap, and a candle. I made sure to get a basket that could not only hold everything, but could be re-used in the bathroom.  I love the look of this milk crate basket and think it would be perfect in a bathroom, either holding extra towels or even toilet paper!  And while all the decor and finishing touches definitely help make the bathroom pretty and decorated, I also wanted to make sure their bathroom was clean to begin with.

I don't know about you, but no matter how many lists I made of things we needed for the new house, I always forgot something, and cleaning supplies were usually it! While the house we bought was left in really good shape, one of the areas we were adamant about re-cleaning were the toilets. My husband even went as far as replacing all the toilet seats. But since I wasn't about to gift a toilet seat, I went for the next best thing... a disposable toilet scrubber. While cleaning toilets is probably my least favorite chore, I've been a long time fan of the disposable toilet scrubber... for obvious reasons. The Scotch-Brite® Disposable Toilet Scrubber makes this usually dreaded chore more bearable, and definitely less messy!  Not only do I just throw out the scrubber part when I'm done, but I don't even have to use an extra liquid toilet cleaner, since it has a built-in bleach alternative cleaner with pumice that scrubs away rust & hard water stains.  And while gifting a toilet scrubber might not seem like the most obvious choice, I think the best gifts are things that we love so much that we want to pass on to everyone we know!   So if I can make cleaning toilets even just a little bit better, than I feel like a good friend!

I found the Scotch-Brite® Disposable Toilet Scrubber and Scotch-Brite® Disposable Toilet Scrubber Refills in the cleaning aisle at Target. At first I looked in the aisle where the toilet liquid cleaners are located, but they ended up being in the aisle with the toilet cleaning supplies and sponges. Once I found them, it made total sense, but I figured I would let you know in case you do the same thing!

Once you find the toilet scrubber wand, make sure to look for an Instant Redeemable Coupon on each box: “Try Me Now! Save $2”! In addition to the in store discount, the Cartwheel app is offering 15% Off New Disposable Toilet Scrubber, from November 6th through the 12th!   And really, who isn't interested in a great deal!?!

Now that I had the gift basket filled, I turned my attention to making a gift tag.  And since I love all my readers so much, I decided to share my gift tags with a FREE downloadable printable.   I know we all like options, so I made the gift tag with 4 different color options: all black, purple, red (great around the holidays!), and blue!
