So last Thursday was my birthday... I am now officially 32! Isn't it funny how when you get older, your birthday isn't as big of a deal and life just kind of goes on. Don't get me wrong, my family and friends spoiled me and made me feel super special on my birthday (and the entire week)! But on my actual birthday, Chris had work and Noah had school... it was business as usual in many ways. One of Noah's classmates also had a birthday that day, and when I'd ask Noah who's birthday it was, he'd always say me... and Eli! Chris called us on FaceTime while walking to work and wanted to sing Happy Birthday to me... Noah reminded him that we had to sing for Eli as well ;)
After getting over having to share my spotlight with a 3 year old (just joking) , I was pleasantly surprised to come downstairs and find that Chris left me a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a balloon and card from Noah. I also tried to persuade Noah to take a birthday selfie with me. He negotiated and offered me a birthday kiss instead :) I guess my negotiation skills are still better than his though, because I ended up getting my selfie with him too ;)
Nothing too exciting happened while Noah was at school. Just relaxing and watching Pretty Little Liars was enough for me! I was blown away by all the texts and FB messages I received wishing me happy birthday... I spent most of the morning (and rest of the day) reading them all. I also have a few amazing and generous friends who sent me birthday gifts... totally unexpected! After I picked Noah up at school, we went out to lunch with my mom at Houlihans. We had planned to get my favorite dessert there (caramel nut crunch pie), but we were so stuffed after lunch that we decided against it. It was probably for the best, especially since I knew Chris had picked up some cupcakes for when he got home.
As I had hoped, Noah fell asleep on the way home. Usually I'm not a fan of Noah napping, but I figured it would help given the circumstances. I got a nice relaxing afternoon and Noah was awake and happy when Chris got home. My boys sang to me, we ate cupcakes (Ninja Turtle ones), and I was showered with gifts... let's just say it helps to publish a birthday wish list ;). I am one lucky lady!
^^^ funny story about this selfie. When we were taking it with the selfie stick, the 3 and 2 were showing up reversed. So we turned them around so they looked right on the screen. We forgot that iPhones now self correct these sort of things... MAJOR FAIL!
^^^ don't Ninja Turtle cupcakes just scream "32"!?!
^^^ the shirt Noah got me :)
^^^ Chris (and Noah) did great and basically got me everything off my wish list!
Last night, I had one last birthday celebration. We went out to dinner with my parents and then went back to their house for ice cream cake and more presents. Not only did my parents finish off my wish list (they got me the runner I asked for as well as a new utility vest and sweatshirt I had been eyeing), but my mom also surprised me by throwing me a Strawberry Shortcake "party". On my actual birthday, my mom posted a picture on FB of me from my 2nd birthday. It was of me blowing out my candles on my Strawberry Shortcake cake. Not only is it one of my (and Chris') favorite photos, but many of my friends also commented on how they had a Strawberry Shortcake party as a kid too and how classic it was! Needless to say, I was shocked and in love, when I saw my mom set up a Strawberry Shortcake themed "party" for after dinner cake and presents!
^^^ family dinner at Cheesecake Factory... and I'm wearing the shirt Noah gave me :)
^^^ Noah was such a great helper opening my gifts :)
^^^ Noah being a bossy pants (which I secretly love)! After singing me happy birthday, he told me I wasn't allowed to blow out my own candles, that he wanted to do it all by himself. At least he saved me one last candle to blow out myself, right?!?
^^^ 30 years later and I got another Strawberry Shortcake party!
Ninja Turtles and Strawberry Shortcake themed birthday celebrations... are we sure it's 2016 and not the 1980s!?! I absolutely loved the blast from the past to help celebrate my 32nd birthday! Not sure how they are gonna top it next year... maybe a Care Bears party?!?
