Mommy Style | Mom Style Remix - Sweatshirts

My recipe for fashion is to combine comfort with a few stylish accessories.   That way I look put together without looking too dressed up or out of place while playing with my 3 year old son and driving him around to his weekly activities.  If you've been following my past Mommy Style posts, you'll know that the majority of my outfits consist of jeans, a comfortable shirt, and a scarf or a statement necklace to give it that extra oomph.   Today, I'm excited to link up with  Jenn and Anne and show you three different ways that you can style a sweatshirt.  In my opinion, I find it easy just to think of the sweatshirt as you would a sweater or other casual shirt.  They look great with skinny and boyfriend jeans, and it's just as easy to dress them up a bit with a colorful scarf or a large statement necklace.  But let's be honest, sometimes the best way to wear a sweatshirt is with some joggers and your favorite slippers ;)

Look #1:
For my first outfit, I decided to dress up this striped sweatshirt a little.  I got this particular sweatshirt last year  at Loft.  It is a little longer in the back than the front (I love a little extra coverage in the back) and has a 3/4 sleeve.  As a result, I find that it wears more like a blouse than it does a sporty sweatshirt.  Because of this, I figured it would be easy to dress up by wearing a darker rinse skinny jean, a statement necklace and some ballet flats.  This is the kind of outfit you could wear all day running errands or playing with your kids but then look presentable if something came up that evening with your husband or girlfriends.  I even show how adding a classic black blazer can take the look to the next level for a night out.

Look #2:
This is the perfect outfit for a casual weekend spent with the family.... which is exactly when I wore it.  Right now I still need to add a jacket when outside, but in many parts of the country (and hopefully in a few weeks here) this would be all you need!  A crew neck sweatshirt, cuffed boyfriend jeans, booties, and a colorful blanket scarf... it reads as comfortable yet stylish and on trend.

And my son just couldn't help but get in on the fun as well.  And he just happened to be wearing a sweatshirt as well :)

Look #3:
While I do like putting together more stylish outfits, there are days where I just want to wear sweatpants.  This is a common outfit for me when I take my son to swim class or if I'm just going home to clean the house after dropping him off at school.  I find that a tunic sweatshirt combined with some fitted joggers provides ultimate comfort for myself without looking like a total bum.  Pair it with a pair of slip on sneakers (a leopard print is always fun and goes with more than you might think) and change into your slippers when at home.

  1. You are channeling Jessica Biel in #1, I didn't notice until now, but you ladies totally look alike! Have you heard that before? Love that you added a blazer. I've been debating if I really "need" one/ if I would wear it enough to justify buying one. You may have swayed me :)

  2. All of these are awesome. I think number 1 is my favorite. I love the stripes. It's so easy to style sweatshirts yet we forget to do it. I need to remember more often.

  5. Jeans, a comfortable shirt, and a scarf or a statement necklace is such a good mom uniform. Easy to figure out what to wear, but still easy to look stylish! I like how you showcased such a variety here... was going to say #1 is my favorite, but then I looked at #2 again and that scarf and boots are just so great with the monochrome look underneath. Thanks for joining us!
