Happy New Year everyone! How has 2016 been treating you so far? After all the excitement of Christmas, having Chris home for almost two full weeks, and a new year, I'm pretty happy!
Throughout the year, it's rare for Chris to take off full weeks. Instead, he usually takes of a day or two here and there to give us long weekends. But ever since I've known him, he's always taken off one to two weeks around Christmas. It's relatively slow at work, and it's nice since we have so many things planned with Christmas and birthdays. Chris was home starting December 22nd and was so excited he was able to make Noah's "singing presentation" at his preschool. It wasn't really a big deal in that it was just the last 10 minutes of school and in their classroom, but for us, it was huge and we were so excited to go. Noah can be a pretty shy kid and definitely didn't sing as loud as he does at home, but he wowed us nonetheless. While I was surprised at how shy he seemed in front of the parents, Chris said that's exactly how he was as a child. Then it was time for Christmas Eve and Day celebrations, which you can read all about! We also had a party on the 26th with Chris' extended family. His dad is one of 8 children so it's always a huge crowd when we get together with them each Christmas!
Once Christmas was over, it was all about family fun, relaxing at home, and celebrating a few birthdays! On the 26th, Chris and I started talking about what we wanted to do that week since he was off. We knew our Crayola Factory annual passes would expire soon, so we wanted to go one last time. Thank goodness we checked the passes and saw that they were only valid until the 27th. That evening at around 9 pm we decided we would go the next day! We had a lot of fun and even met a "crayon"!
^^^ I started cracking up when I was going through the photos and saw this one. Apparently I wasn't too pleased that Noah was messing up my creations! "Play-doh" isn't just for kids!
In our family, birthdays seemed to be grouped together. The four cousins are all born between 10/2 and 11/8 and then we have three birthdays in December - Chris' dad on 12/27 and Chris and my sister-in-law on 12/30 (and were born in the same year!). To celebrate Chris and his dad's birthdays, we went out for mexican on Wednesday. This place is so popular that even though we went at 5:30 on a Wednesday, it was still an hour wait! Thank goodness Noah slept that entire time in the car and was in a good mood when he woke up!
^^^ wearing the jacket Uncle Justin got him for his 1st birthday... it finally fits!
While we had many dinner plans during the week, we spent almost all of our days at home, just hanging out and playing with Noah's new toys. We've been playing with lots of board games, specifically Candy Land and the Daniel Tiger game. He's also really into building things with his Magnatiles and loves making "our house". We did make it out on Saturday to the Home Depot Kids Workshop and then stayed out to run a bunch of errands.
^^^ Noah was shocked at how "bad" my mom was with the Magnatiles ;)
Noah's sweater (which I'm obsessed with)
On Saturday, we had one last birthday celebration for Chris. This time we went to Outback Steakhouse with my parents. My mom brought this digger sticker book for Noah to do during dinner and it was a life saver that literally kept him entertained and occupied the entire time! We are already planning on getting the other books (dinosaurs, Disney, and animals... and think the Star Wars & Frozen would be really cool as well!) as well for future dinners! I'm tempted to pick up a few just to have as backup gifts as well.
After dinner, we came back to our house for some singing and cupcakes. When I asked Noah what we should get daddy for his birthday, he immediately said he wanted to get him a Mickey cake. While I wouldn't call Chris a huge Mickey Mouse fan, he does get pretty excited for the hot dog dance at the end of each episode ;) While a full cake was more than we needed, we were able to order some Mickey cupcakes from our local ShopRite. It was funny because when I went to pick them up, the woman had no clue about my order! I stayed calm and nice and she told me that she could whip something up while I waited. When she was finished making them, she told me that she was charging me much less for them for the inconvenience and since I never got annoyed or upset with them. I guess it pays to be nice ;)
^^^ this kiss may look innocent and sweet, but really he's just trying to rub icing on Chris' cheek ;)
After almost two weeks with Chris being home, I'm sure that Noah (and I) will be missing him tons today for many reasons. Just one of the reasons is that Chris would take Noah down to play first thing every morning and let me wake up slowly. While Noah is often super attached to me, he's gotten pretty into daddy while he was home. He would choose him to get him in and out of the car seat, asked for me to drive and Chris to sit in the back with him, wanted Chris to carry him all over the place, and requested baths with daddy over his usual showers with me. While I know it will be good to get back to our normal routine, we will definitely miss the laid back fun we've been having!
Do you usually take time off from work between Christmas and New Year's?
