One of my goals for 2016 was to have a family date night once a month. I'm happy to report that we had one at the beginning of January and am looking forward to another one next month. We kept things super simple by doing pizza and a movie at home. We used store bought pizza crust and pizza sauce and just stuck with plain cheese. Noah loved helping... he spread out the sauce, added the cheese, and even helped Chris cut it.
Noah and I often watch movies in the afternoon, so I thought he would love doing the same thing as a family. Noah got Cars for Christmas and I thought he would really enjoy it. But instead, he got a little scared at the scene where Lightning McQueen falls off the truck and ends up in Radiator Springs, and wanted to sit on my lap. Shortly after it got funny again, I noticed that Noah was totally passed out. And so are family movie night was officially over. We had planned to try again last night, but then Noah fell asleep at 5:30, so Chris and I had our own date in front of the television. While I love some one on one time with Chris, I think the key to a successful family date in the future, will be to either do it in the afternoon or an evening after Noah's napped.
While our family date nights haven't gone as I had envisioned, we still enjoyed our time spent as a family. I hope that we will continue these evenings and one day we will watch an entire movie together :)
