Elf on the Shelf Shenanigans - Week 1

Last Sunday, we had a North Pole Breakfast to welcome our new "elf on the shelf".  This is the first year we are participating in this tradition and we are so excited!  Noah named his elf Buddy, with some help from Chris and me.  We are doing a few things different from the "norm".  For one, our elf is super special and doesn't lose his magic if Noah touches him.  We have no problem with Noah touching or playing with the elf.  It usually only happens for a little while after he finds Buddy, and then he forgets about him anyway.  Also, while we Chris is having lots of fun putting Buddy into different scenarios each night, our elf will not be causing any mischief.   I know I had so much fun browsing Pinterest for elf ideas, so I thought it would be helpful to share what our elf hast been up to.  I plan to post weekly updates until Buddy leaves us on Christmas Day :)

Let me start by saying that I can take no credit for any of this, other than the North Pole Breakfast.  Chris has come up with all of these ideas and executed them all on his own (besides asking me for some orange tissue paper... which you'll see why below).  While I am so excited for him to taking over complete creative control, it's also hard for me to relinquish some control.  I'm used to coming up with all the crafts and blog-worthy type things we do around here, so it's definitely a change of pace for me.  But I knew he'd do a fantastic job since he often does similar things with Noah's larger stuffed animals :)  I've been posting a few photos on my Instagram, but in case you missed them, here's what Buddy the Elf has been up to so far this week! So far, lots of trucks have been involved :)

Buddy had a good night's sleep in our tissue box

Buddy helped the Paw Patrol save the day!

Buddy had a busy night of construction

Buddy got hungry and helped himself to our donuts

Thank goodness Buddy was there to save the day when we had a kitchen fire!

^^^ and to think Noah is asking for yet another fire truck for Christmas!

Buddy figured he'd use Noah's crane to help hang some ornaments :)

I can't wait to see what Chris has in store for this next week!

Are you doing the elf on the shelf this year?  Do you keep it simple or go all out?
