Our Weekend | My Niece's Baptism

This weekend, we made a super short trip to Rhode Island.  My 8 year old niece was baptized this past weekend, which meant we made the 4 hour drive despite it being the shortest visit we've ever had!  We left first thing Saturday morning and arrived at my brother's house around lunchtime.  My brother and sister-in-law were running around getting everything ready, but we were able to spend time with Noah's cousins as well as my parents and my sister-in-law's parents.  Noah had so much fun playing with his cousins and Chris won the "Best Uncle" award by letting the kids climb all over him!  Baths were had, we dressed Noah like Mr. Rogers, and gave Kaitlyn her birthday/baptism gift.

^^^ Kaitlyn and Matthew competed to see who could find the better app for Noah to play with :)

Then it was time to head over to their church.  My brother and his family are Mormon (I was brought up it as well) and instead of being baptized as a baby, children get to decide whether they want to be baptized once they turn 8.  At this age, all their sins are washed away, and they promise to follow God's teachings.  I am so glad that we were able to be there for Kaitlyn's special day and spend some time with my family.  And as usual, Noah had so much fun being with his cousins.

^^^ Not only did Kaitlyn have a beautiful "party" dress (seen above), but I also loved her baptismal gown that she wore for the actual baptism (where she was completely dunked under water)

While I wasn't able to take photos in the actual chapel or baptism, it was an absolutely beautiful ceremony.  My dad spoke, my brother performed a song on his guitar, and my 5 year old nephew even said the prayer!  After the baptism, we all met in the gym and had a delicious dinner and enjoyed this beautiful cake a friend of theirs made to look like her dress!  I was so impressed at the turnout and that Kaitlyn was surrounded by family and friends on this special day!

After the party was over, the adults cleaned up, while the kids kept themselves entertained with iPads and chasing each other around.  I realized that Noah is not used to real "rough housing" and we often had to run interference with his boy cousins to make sure they didn't tackle him to the ground during a game of tag!

^^^ I just love this photo of Noah in his PJs, sneakers, and iPad as my mom is checking us into the hotel :)

Sunday morning, while my parents stayed a little longer, we left first thing.  We normally like our visits to be a little longer, but we needed to get back home so we could go to the fundraiser at Noah's preschool.  They were having a Holiday Boutique with vendors as well as tons of baskets being raffled off.  We bought lots of tickets, but learned that we are super unlucky, and only won one "basket"... the personalized gift bag that Noah's class made with their hand and finger prints.
