Five on Friday

I can't believe it's the last day of January.  Time has been going by so quickly now that I'm home with Noah.  The days can sometimes be long, but the weeks and months go by way too fast!  Anyway, I'm here today with another Five on Friday!

One

My younger brother, Luke, came home for a visit last weekend.  We spent Saturday morning at my parents' house hanging out with him. We also went to dinner with him and my parents Saturday night.  It was really nice getting to see him without the craziness of a holiday!  Since he's moved to Rhode Island, he's come home for Noah's birthday and Christmas.  Both were very busy, so we didn't get much time to just hang out.

^^^ drinking orange juice together… cracks me up!

Two

I LOVE the weekends!  Not only is it great to spend time as a family, but Chris gets up with Noah and lets me sleep in.  I know, I married a winner!  They get their one on one time and I get some extra sleep.  Whenever I come out, Chris always has at least a couple of pictures he's taken of Noah playing.

Three

I definitely prefer the days where Noah and I get out of the apartment, even if it's just for a little while.  This week we had some play dates and met up with friends for lunch.  It definitely helps us stay sane during this cold weather!

Four

Ever since Noah figured out how to open our front door, we've been scared that he is going to get his fingers stuck and really hurt himself.  It's one of those doors that automatically unlocks when you pull the handle.  So we asked maintenance to install a deadbolt and we finally got it on Wednesday!  Noah was very interested and wouldn't take his eyes off them installing it!

Five

Noah got a new toy kitchen!  The Fisher Price kitchen he got for Christmas kept collapsing.  The bottom part would cave in whenever he pushed on it.  After "fixing" it numerous times, we decided it's not worth it.  Instead, we are returning it (I think it might be defective) and we got the Ikea play kitchen instead!  It took a long time, but we (98% Chris) were able to put the base of it together last night.  We plan to assemble the hutch tonight.

A Day in the Life - A Photo an Hour

Today I'm linking up with Stephanie at Southern Mess for "A Photo an Hour".  I always love reading about other bloggers' daily routines, so I figured I'd join in on the fun.  I realized that the last time I did one of these was when Noah was almost 6 months old!  Obviously a lot has changed since then!  Here is what our Monday looked like this week.

7 am - Noah wakes up.  Noah goes to sleep in his crib, but ends up in our bed during the middle of the night.  Chris gets up at 6 am and Noah and I continue sleeping.  Monday, I was able to prolong getting out of bed with a bottle and some snuggles.  We finally got out of bed at 7:30.

I put Noah in his crib so I could fold his laundry.

I got Noah dressed and it's time to play a little.

8:30 am - Noah and I both eat our breakfast.  Noah got banana, cantaloupe, and some puffs this morning.  I had some Multigrain Cheerios.

9 am - Noah watches some Bubble Guppies in his high chair, so that I can get ready.

10:30 am - Play date at the Randolph Gym.  Our friends, Becky & Owen, planned it and there was an impressive turnout of 10 kids from the MOMS Club that showed up!

12 noon - we arrived home.  I had to wait for the movers to move this big piece of furniture so that I could get into the parking garage.

Noah fell asleep in the car and stayed asleep walking in and transferred into the crib no problem. This meant I had some time to eat lunch and go on the computer while he napped.

1:45 - Noah wakes up from his nap and we read his favorite book, "Tickle Tickle Peter".

2 pm - normally Noah eats lunch around 11:30/12, but since he fell asleep in the car, we had a late lunch today.  Ham, crackers, veggie melts, and some grapes.

2:45 pm - We take a trip to the leasing office to pick up our packages.  We finally got a lock to keep Noah from opening the oven drawer… I hope it works!

3:30 pm - we spend the afternoon playing with his toys and we "share" a bowl of ice cream.  He is definitely his mother's son!

5 pm - Noah has his dinner… broccoli and apple baby food

6:15 pm - I make dinner.  Tonight was Erinn's Creamy Orzo & Asparagus

6:30 pm - Daddy is home from work… yay!

7:30 pm - Chris gives Noah his bath while I clean up the toys, change Noah's sheets, and get his bottle ready.

8 pm - I give Noah his bottle and rock him to sleep while Chris does the dishes.

We then relax for a little while before I go to bed.  I'm asleep by 10 pm and Chris stays up tip 11:30/12.  It's hit or miss how many times Noah wakes up in the middle of the night.  Monday night he went to bed at 8 pm, woke up at 10 pm, midnight, 5 am, and for good at 7 am… it's exhausting!

Valentine's Day Fashion

While I usually end up wearing jeans and a sweater for our Valentine's Day plans, I couldn't help but "window shop" online.  I'm in love with the red and maroon dresses and just wish I had a place to wear them!  And isn't this tulle skirt so cute!  But like I said, I normally go the more casual route.  You could wear these sweaters all day no matter what your Valentine's Day plans are.  Chances are we will be staying in on actual Valentine's Day night, and these PJs are definitely calling my name!

13 & 14 Month Favorites

Considering that Noah is almost 15 months old, I thought I should post about his 13 & 14 month favorites.

Right now, Noah is really into everything kitchen related.  I guess it's because that's what he sees all day, so he wants to imitate us.  He also loves his Dyson toy vacuum.  Whenever either of us vacuum, he wants to vacuum along next to us.  In addition to the walker, he uses the vacuum to help him stand.  In music class, Noah gets to use a lot of fun instruments.  One of his favorite was the bells.  He also loves the rain maker and his glockenspiel.  Finally, Noah loves to read.  Not only do we read before bed, but he has a basket full of books that he flips through during the day.  He especially likes touch and feel books like this Peter Rabbit book.   In addition to these toys, Noah is a huge fan of card board boxes and paper.  He will ignore a toy if it means he can rip up some wrapping paper or even a magazine.  Like most toddlers, he has more fun playing with the box that the toy came in :)

January Date - Bowling

For Christmas, I gave Chris "A Year of Dates".  On Christmas, he opened a stack of envelopes, one for each month of 2014.  Inside the envelopes are pre-planned (and some pre-paid) dates for us to enjoy each month.  At the beginning of each month, we open the envelope and schedule a day to go on the date.   I will be recapping our dates each month.

January was our first official date and it was to go bowling!   I have to say that it took longer than I expected to figure out a night to go.

Friday night, my mom came over to watch Noah, and Chris and I headed over to a local bowling alley. We had called a week or so before asking if they had open bowling on Friday and Saturday nights (because we've had issues with leagues in the past) and were told that it wouldn't be a problem.  We arrived at 7:15, the bowling alley didn't look full, but when we went up to the desk to get a lane and shoes, they told us we couldn't bowl because of too many reservations.  So annoying!  Then they said we could have a lane but only for 20 minutes… lame and not much you can do in 20 minutes!  Finally they got us a lane (all the way on the end) that they said we could have until 8:30.  Thankfully since it was just the two of us and we only planned to bowl two games anyway, that worked for us.

As part of the date, we planned to use a Pizza Hut gift card we had to get some pizza and soda there.  Unfortunately, the gift cards don't work on their Express locations, so that was a waste.  Chris did find a coupon online that got us 2 games free, so at least we saved a little on that.

We had fun bowling despite me being a horrible bowler!  We took a few pictures, but since we were at the end of the alley where the lighting wasn't the best, they didn't turn out that great.  But since the point of these dates is to just spend more time together, I consider it a big success!

We already have our February date planned, so stay tuned for that recap!

Five on Friday

Can you believe it's Friday already!  With a 3 day weekend, and Chris coming home early and going in late because of snow, the week seemed to go by quickly.  I used to look forward to Fridays because of no work on weekends, but now I look forward to it because it means Chris will be home with us, and I love this weekly link up!

One

Chris had off work on Monday because of Martin Luther King Day.  We decided to take Noah to a makeup music class (since he's already missed 2 because of being sick).  Chris likes going to these things, so it was a perfect opportunity for Chris to do the class with us.  I guess a lot of guys were off work, because there were three other dads in the class as well!

Two

Last weekend we went to a family baptism.  Chris' cousin, Molly, had a baby boy, Jeremiah, in October 2013.  We went for the baptism and was surprised with a wedding!  EVERYONE was shocked and so happy that we got to witness a wedding and a baptism all in one day!  There was a nice party to follow and it was so nice seeing all the Flinns again!

Three

I got this NARS "The Multiple" in Orgasm (described as a peachy pink shimmer) about a month ago.  I love how it provides a natural shimmer on my cheeks and under the brows.  I'm pretty basic with my makeup routine, and I love how it's so simple to apply over my foundation and bronzer.

Four

I picked up this Essie nail polish at Harmon's the other day.  I love the look of glitter nails and I'm even contemplating doing them myself!  If I do a crummy job I'll just bring this to the nail salon next time for them to use :)

Five

Chris had a delayed opening because of the snow on Wednesday.  Since he was home when Noah was awake, he wanted to recreate a picture that we took back when Noah was a newborn.

^^^ The picture on the left was Chris' first day back to work after Noah was born (November 2012).
The picture on the right is from this past Wednesday (2014).  How quickly things change!

My Winter Uniform

I don't know about you, but I sometimes find myself in a rut in the winter when it comes to my wardrobe.  There's something about the cold weather that just makes me want to be warm and comfortable 24/7.  When I go out (to run errands) I end up wearing comfy sweaters, jeans or leggings, and my Ugg boots.  And when it's really cold out, I don't even want to leave the house, and I end up wearing sweats and slippers even more!

Valentine's Day Gift Guide

Valentine's Day will be here before we know it.  While Chris and I try not to go overboard, it's always nice to get a little something for the special people in your life.  A bunch of these items are definitely splurges, but I most look forward to a handmade card and something small but romantic.  And you can't forget about the little kids!

Getting crafty over here!

I've been having a lot of fun doing some crafts with Noah recently.  Since it's cold out and not always ideal to go out in, I love having indoor activities to do with Noah.

I'm always looking for fun and easy crafts that we can do with Noah.  I got this idea from Pinterest and couldn't wait to do it!  We originally planned to do this at Christmas with my niece and nephews, but time got away from us.  So instead, Chris and I did it with Noah one Sunday morning.

^^^ I found a snowflake template online (just googled some images) and cut it out.

^^^ I then used the template and traced it onto black construction paper.  I also added a 1/2 inch border and cut it out.

^^^ I then cut 2 pieces of contact paper to match the size of my construction paper frame.  I just stuck the frame and the snowflake on top of the contact paper.  (The contact paper really brought me back to high school when we had to cover all of our text books!)

^^^ I just took simple tissue paper (I have a bunch on hand for gift bags) and cut squares out.

Noah had a blast playing with the tissue paper squares as well as sticking a few to the contact paper.  We obviously had to help him and make sure they were placed all over for even coverage.

After Noah (with our help) placed all the tissue paper squares on the contact paper, it looked like this.  I then put the second sheet of contact paper on the back to seal it all in.  Flip it over, and it looks like this!

And here's the finished product hanging on our window.  I love how it catches the light!

^^^ Noah admiring his craft

So there you have it.  A relatively simple craft that your little one can do.  I definitely plan on using this technique for other holiday crafts and decorations!

********************

I also wanted to show you how we made Chris' birthday craft.  It was super simple and I love how it turned out.

First off, I bought this Crayola Mess Free Color Wonder Finger Paint Set.  It comes with the "paint" and the paper that the paint will work on.  Basically, the paints are all clear gel, and when you rub it on the paper, the color shows up.  This is AMAZING for little kids.

Next, I cut the paper in half (the paper in the box is pretty big).  I printed the number 36 (using Word) in the largest size that would print on one piece of paper.  Then I cut out the number and stuck it to the paper using double sided tape.  Then Noah just finger painted all over the piece of paper.  Noah got the hand of sticking his finger in the gel, but he didn't quite grasp the idea of then rubbing it on the paper.  I just helped him rub different colors on the paper.

Once it was dry, I removed the 36 and was left with this pretty masterpiece :)

I love doing crafts with Noah.  While he needs a lot of help and it can sometimes get messy, I definitely think it's good to do these hand on activities with him.

I'm  linking up with Leah and Emily for Mommy and Me Monday!
