Last weekend we bought a Vitamix. Noah loves the Panera smoothies, so I thought it would be great if I could make them at home and add some veggies into them too! We've had one every day since buying it! I love that Noah views them as a "treat" but really he's just getting tons of fruits and veggies... I think that's what they call a win win! Here are the recipes we tried this week.
1 | Orange Smoothie
Medium orange
Half a banana
3 strawberries
4 baby carrots
1 tbsp agave nectar
1 tbsp agave nectar
1/2 cup water
2 | Strawberry Spinach Smoothie
6 strawberries
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
Handful of baby spinach
1 cup of ice
4 | Honeydew Smoothie
2 cups honeydew
1 apple, washed and seeded
1/2 banana
1 cup ice

5 | Strawberry Mango Smoothie
2 cups honeydew
1 apple, washed and seeded
1/2 banana
1 cup ice
5 | Strawberry Mango Smoothie
1 cup strawberries
1 cup mango
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
1 cup ice
1/2 cup water

There hasn't been a single smoothie I didn't like. Though I'm learning I actually prefer the kind without the yogurt. I'm actually wondering if it's because I used French Vanilla yogurt instead of regular vanilla??? I just found it gave it a tarter taste than I prefer. You really can't taste the veggies as long as you put a sweet fruit in there. I think my favorite smoothie from this week was the Orange Smoothie, which surprised me a little. Next week I think I might try making the sorbets that Vitamix has in their cookbook :)

YUM! So glad you posted this. The honey dew one sounds good! Something I would have never thought of on my own! Did you come up with these recipes or were they in your book?
ReplyDeletemmmm smoothies! I normally toss in spinach flax seed and oats to ours. You really can't taste a difference! Fruit is a great mask. Aria sure loves em. So nice that you got a vitamix and are putting it to good use! I get a big tub of strawberry yogurt for our smoothies, yoplait, and we get no tartness. Maybe add less!
ReplyDeletehoney is good natural sweetener if you need so mask a sour taste. I don't use yogurt in my smoothies but I do add protein powder and it's chocolate or vanilla flavored. I love hiding veggies in smoothies and hadn't thought of carrotts and I've never used grapes as a fruit - genius idea we love grapes!
