Five on Friday

One

I know I'm a little late, but I decided to pick a "word" for 2014.  I like the idea of choosing a word to reflect on, live by, and aspire to for the year.  My word for 2014 is Calm.  Calm means undisturbed; composed; stillness; serenity; tranquility; peace.  These are all things that I hope to achieve this year.  I have always been a planner, and will continue to be.  But during those moments of stillness, I really want to enjoy the calm.  I can only imagine that as Noah ventures into toddlerhood, he will have some tantrums.  I want to keep my cool and remain calm.  I want to really enjoy all the little moments in our day, even the mundane ones.  Instead of focusing on what we could be doing or more things to have, I want to live a peaceful and simple life.

Two

Currently I'm reading "The Goldfinch" by Donna Tartt for my MOMS Book Club.  It's about a guy who lost his mom in a terrorist attack when he was a child and how his life is affected.

Three

Since Noah and I will be inside more this winter due to weather, I want to have some more planned activities to do in the mornings.  While we have music class on Fridays, I want to fill the remaining days with some other creative outlets.  The days always go by faster when we have things planned in the mornings.  The other day I had Noah color, and he seemed to really enjoy it.  I also found this website on Pinterest, and I'm really looking forward to trying some of these with Noah!

Four

A nasty cold/borderline flu has been going through my family.  I got it first, starting on New Year's Eve.  I had a sore throat, was super stuffy for maybe a day, had a cough, and on the worst day felt like I would fall down every time I stood up.  Thankfully, my mom was able to come help me with Noah when I felt my worst.  Thankfully it didn't last long and I've just been left with a runny nose.  Then Chris got it, had similar symptoms, and also had one day where he felt absolutely horrible and couldn't get out of bed.  I'm just thankful we didn't feel this way at the same time!  I thought maybe Noah was lucky, but on Monday, his nose started running like a faucet and he was acting sick.  On Tuesday, the snot continued to drip and his cheeks were red all day.  He never had a real fever, but he did feel a little warm to the touch.  Tuesday night, we were doing our normal bedtime routine.  I had just given him his bottle, and he had pushed it away half way through.  I had him over my shoulder, just rocking him to sleep, when he just threw up.  I'm not sure if it was something he ate that upset his stomach, or because of the congestion he had from the cold, but regardless, it was not fun.  I knew it was bad enough that I needed Chris' help, but it was worse than I expected.  Not much got on Noah, just on my shirt and of course all over our glider.  I changed my shirt, then changed Noah, while Chris got to work on cleaning up the mess.  The smell was HORRIBLE!  Noah had mozzarella cheese with dinner, and let's say that the smell of mozzarella mixed with milk is not pleasant!  The room smelled so bad that we decided to bring Noah in with us immediately.  The next day my mom helped me clean the chair some more, but the room still smells.  After doing some research, we bought some Nature's Made cleaner that is meant to clean up pet messes.  After applying it Wednesday night and again Thursday morning, I think we finally have it under control.

Five

Finally, I'd like to wish my little brother, Luke, a very happy birthday!  He turns 26 today, and I still can't get over that he is a full blown adult… working full time and getting married this year!   Because of the timing of his birthday, and that he's lived away from home since he went to college, we haven't celebrated with him since he was in high school.  We miss him!

  9. I found you through Daffodils. I hope all of you are feeling better and on the mend. "Calm" is an excellent New Year's Resolution. My resolution is to be a little more "childlike"; I've been working too much lately, and I want my son to remember me as being fun! I love your blog. Happy weekend!

  10. I like that word "Calm" :) I hope you accomplish all the things you hope for this year. Good luck! I might have to save that site you found on pinterest. It's probably going to be useful towards the end of the year when my daughter turns one!
