Baby Noah - Week 48

Weight:  apparently he lost some weight... now he's just under 26 lbs!

Health:  Noah was feeling better, but then it got bad again on Monday evening.  He was coughing a lot and it was making it hard for him to sleep.  I woke up Tuesday morning with a sore throat as well.  I took Noah to the doctor on Tuesday to make sure the cough didn't mean it was something worse than a normal cold.  We met with the new doctor in the practice and we really liked her.  She said his ear was slightly red, but it looked like it was a viral infection on the way out.  She suggested to use saline drops, suction out the snot, run a humidifier, incline his mattress, and give him motrin... all things we were already doing.  The only thing she said we should be doing is using the drops and nosefrida before every meal and not just before bed.

Sleep:  Noah has been starting off the night in his crib, but eventually ends up in our bed.  I asked the doctor if I should be sleep training and she said that it all depends on the parent.  If you can take the crying, go for it, but if you can't there's no point starting if you can't see it completely through.  She said she personally got up with her kids and they usually ended up in her bed.  She said as long as you safely co-sleep, there's nothing wrong with it.  It was nice to hear from a doctor that I'm not crazy to not let him "cry it out".  She also said that babies will naturally wake more when they are about to do something new.  And since Noah is learning something new almost everyday, I can't really be surprised.  She said that before they do something new that they will dream more, and when that happens you aren't in as deep of a sleep.  It was nice to have an explanation for all of this :)

Clothes:  Finding pants that fit in the length department... why is this such a problem?!?  I know I have the same problem (even though I'm not short), but I didn't expect it to start this early with Noah!  We have a pair of Gap sweatpants that have elastic around the ankles in size 12-18 that seem short.  So we got some 18-24 sweatpants with elastic ankles, but they were from the "Toddler" section at Gap.... and they were ridiculously long!  So now we are going to get those exact pants in 12-18 and see if they are a good length.  And don't even get me started on pants without the elastic ankle!  As he's cruising around the couch, he will step on the pant leg and it will sometimes pull his pants right off!

Social:   Last Friday, we made last minute plans to meet up with Becky and Owen for lunch.  We went to the Creamery and then went walking around town.  I guess I tired Noah out, because he was asleep by the end of the walk.

We had a very busy and fun weekend... going to NYC and to the Fall Festival.

On Monday, Noah and I went down to my parents' house.  Noah had some carnitas, played with Uncle Luke, and went for a walk around the neighborhood.  Grandpa taught him about trees, and quizzed me along the way (I've learned I know NOTHING about trees).

^^^ I guess the tree lesson didn't really excite Noah... he fell asleep shortly after ;)

When I found out Chris would be working late, we decided to stay longer and do dinner with them as well.  We went to Friendly's and Noah got to color (before he started putting the crayons in his mouth) and even got a balloon at the end.

The rest of the week has been uneventful since we both got sick and didn't want to do much of anything.

Diet:   Noah hasn't been as hungry since he's been sick, but I've found in the morning he prefers eating real food.  I've been giving him watermelon, cantaloupe, and mini pancakes.  He likes the watermelon the best.

^^^ he has yet to do it with a full bottle, but the other day he picked up his empty bottle and started "drinking" it on his own!  When he put it down I said, "Noah, drink your bottle", and he picked it up immediately and started doing this!  I'm convinced he understood!

Baby Gear Love:   Since Noah's been sick, we've been relying a lot on baby medicine.  We love our Nosefrida, the Little Remedies Saline Drops, and Vicks Vapor Rub.

Noah got an early birthday gift from us.  I found these fabric alphabet magnets on Etsy after hearing about them from Erin at Strawberry Swing and Other Things.  Since I'm not crafty with a sewing machine (or own one), I decided to buy them rather than make them.  I am so happy with the end result and Noah has had fun playing with them.  So far he just likes to take them off the dishwasher, but whatever makes him happy :)

^^^ please ignore the girly color cup, but we just bought the Nuby Sippy Cup for Noah.  Chris ordered the cup that said "assorted colors" and of course we end up with the girly colors.  We decided to let him try these cups and if they work we will buy the "boy" colors.

Daddy Time:   Since I was feeling sick myself, taking care of a sick baby has been pretty hard.  Thankfully Chris was able to work from home on Thursday and help me out.  Noah loved having Chris home and tried his hardest to distract him from working so he'd come play with him.

And of course they have their swim class :)

Milestones:   Not sure if it's an actual milestone, but Noah's hair is getting so long in the back!  I know a lot of kids who were born with a full head of hair, but for Noah, this is a lot!  We joke that he's growing a mini baby mullet ;)

Likes:   Noah loves playing with the paper liners at the doctor's office!  While we wait for the doctor to come in, all he wants to do is rip that paper to shreds!

Noah loves to read!

Mommy:  I hate being sick, but it is especially hard since I don't get a full night's sleep.  Thankfully I had my mom to help me on Tuesday and Chris to help me on Thursday.

Happy 48 Weeks Noah!
