Thanksgiving 2011

I was definitely looking forward to Thanksgiving this year... a long weekend, getting to see my niece and nephew again, and the start of the Christmas season :)

Chris and I headed over to my parents' house early Thursday morning.  To avoid getting in my mom's way when she was making the turkey, Kaitlyn helped me make cornbread muffins first thing.  She did a great job mixing, but I have to say that the muffins did not turn out as I expected.  We all joked that we could use them for hockey pucks instead of eating them.  Maybe I should take a hint and next year just relax.

This Thanksgiving was surprisingly warm.  Last year we were bundling up and still freezing while this year the kids were outside riding their bikes... Grandpa even had shorts on!

Thanksgiving dinner was great.  The kids were well behaved and the food was yummy!  So nice to be with family... though we really missed Luke.  We are so glad he will be home for Christmas this year!

Instead of shopping on Black Friday, we took Kaitlyn to see Disney's Dare to Dream on Ice.  It was with the Princess and the Frog, Cinderella, and our favorite, Tangled.  Kaitlyn loved it and it was fun to see her having such a great time.   My parents stayed home with Matthew since we knew he would not want to sit for almost 2 hours now that he's walking around.

Friday evening we helped my parents put up their Christmas tree.  Kaitlyn was very excited to put the ornaments on and wanted to put every single one on... even the ones very high up.

Saturday was the last day that David, Trisha, and the kids were visiting in NJ.  We decided to take Kaitlyn to see the Muppet movie.  It was a great movie but I think Kaitlyn was a little scared of the "bad guys" in the movie.  I think she thought there would be more singing and dancing in it.

We said goodbye to the kids Saturday afternoon and headed back to Morristown.  I can't wait to see them all again at Christmas.  I already told Kaitlyn that when she come back we will make Christmas Cookies for Santa.   When we got home Chris and I decided to start decorating our own place for Christmas.  Since our apartment isn't huge we only put up a small tree, but it still makes me feel like Christmas.  I can't wait til we have a bigger place that I can really decorate... I think Chris is a little nervous at how much I will decorate when we have more space!

Thanksgiving was fun... now bring on Christmas!

Kaitlyn and Matthew Visit and Early Thanksgiving

This past weekend was jam packed!  Friday David and Trisha came down to visit with the kids.  Chris and I headed over to my parents' house for a family dinner.  It was so great to see Kaitlyn and Matthew... the last time was at Labor Day, so it was definitely time for a visit!   We even had a cake and sang Happy Birthday to Matthew and Kaitlyn again since Chris and I weren't able to go to Rhode Island for their birthdays this year.

Saturday Chris and I spent the entire day at my parents' house.  We wanted to spend as much time as we could with the kids.  During the day we took Kaitlyn and Matthew to get their pictures taken... they were kind of like birthday photos.  Kaitlyn did a great job smiling and listening to the photographer, so she was able to pick out a bear at Build-a-Bear.

That afternoon, Kaitlyn and I made headbands and had a tea party with my mom.  Kaitlyn loved pouring the "tea" (aka lemonade) and putting spoonfuls of sugar in it.  I don't think she drank any of it... she just had fun pouring more and more tea.

It was great to see Matthew again... he's growing up so fast.  Last time we saw him he was just crawling around and now he's running around non stop.  Kaitlyn made a "house" with walls made out of blocks in the living room, but then "Hurricane Matthew" would come in and immediately knock it down and destroy her "house".

Chris and I were exhausted... we are not used to playing and watching kids all day!  I wish we got to see them more often... I'm so glad they will be back in two weeks for Thanksgiving!

Sunday we were able to relax in the morning before heading over to the Flinns.  They leave for Cancun next Saturday so they wanted to put the tree up before they left.  We put up the tree and decorated it... this year we stuck with mostly silver ornaments.  Chris' mom surprised us with an early Thanksgiving turkey dinner since we won't be together this Thanksgiving.  We were also able to get a family photo in front of the tree... it was a really nice afternoon!
